Bill Busts My Sushi Cherry with a Boston Roll

March 15, 2011 § 1 Comment

My friend Bill found out that I had never had sushi before and told me he was going to take me out for sushi and bust my cherry. His words, not mine. Well, I had had avocado rolls and other wussy veggie sushi like that but never really developed a great love of it. As I have said before, I don’t like seafood. Crab is far from my favorite and even fish is still a bit on the “do not fly list” of my diet, but I am branching out little by little.

This was a Boston roll, which I expected, from the name, to be made from lobster. Turns out it was imitation crab, which is made from fish, I hope. This was Bill’s plate I nibbled off of, and I dunked the piece I tried in soy sauce. In the end, it more resembled chewy soy sauce than anything else, which both delighted and disappointed me. As much as I dislike fish in general, I was hoping for more of a fish experience. Next time we go to this restaurant I will be sure to eat more off his plate and have a better sushi to soy sauce ratio, even if I do add more wasabi.
